How we base our baby clothes sizes
At Keepsake Baby Clothing we determine our clothing sizes by these main factors:
~ Age (from newborn up to 12 years)
~ Height (cm, inches)
~ Weight (kg, pounds)
Clothing Guide & Information
Newborn
Newborn sizes are from 0-3 months and typically, the average height for this age is 55-61cm / 21.5-24inches and approximate weight is 4.1-5.7kg / 9-12.5lbs. Within the first year, babies will experience rapid growth and particularly within the first couple months.
Our newborn sizing is expected to fit across the first three month, yet may last longer depending on the size of the baby. Baby
As babies begin to get older month-by-month, they begin to develop personalities of their own, influencing what they like and don't like. They will adjust to what's better suited for them therefore, rompers, bodysuits and other essential items could make that difference.
Between ages 3-6 months, babies will grow very quickly, typically gaining 1-1.5 inches in height and 1.5-2lbs per month. They will begin to move more and wiggle around, so ensuring that your baby has the perfect clothes and sizing can be vital.
At 6-9 months babies will experience rapid development, due to their improved mobility and also curiosity. They will typically grow 1-2 inches and also gain about 1lbs monthly.
Between 9-12 months mobility, communication and independence will all be becoming enhanced. They are starting to develop a preference for what is comfortable for them. It is very important to consider at these younger ages, easy changing garnaments with snap-button or zip closures can be ideal for both you and them.
Toddler
Toddlers are generally between the ages 1-3 years (12-36 months). Toddlers are said to experience slower growth compared to infancy, typically growing 5-12 cm / 2-5 inches and gaining 1.8-2.7kg / 4-6 lbs. Please note that this may vary depending on how quickly your baby is growing.
By this age, toddlers will have usually developed their own personalities and opinions and are beginning to try and communicate with you. At this age they are far more active and fidgety therefore, it is very necessary to make sure what they are wearing is comfortable but also durable garments.
Children
As your child starts to grow, they will reach a pre-schooler phase. Their outfit choices will become more important to them and clothing will typically begin to get more specific, categorising boys, girls & unisex choices. It is important to invest in a pair of durable, comfortable clothes as although your child is still experiencing growth, it will now be slower than during infancy.
Children will begin to favour certain garments and be less likely to want to take them off therefore, investing in outfits that are comfortable and can be worn for all occasions can be very important.
